Give your home a thorough summer clean without stress
Summer cleaning can lead to unrealistic expectations and unnecessary stress.
Professional organizer Eva-Lena Wakonen says:"Many Swedes think that already in early spring they have to plan in detail what to do and achieve during the summer holidays".
She adds that as a professional organizer, she is used to helping people adjust to a busy life where there is a lot to do and little time.
It is difficult for some people to find a balance between the two.
Wakonen:"I've been trying to tell people not to waste the whole summer holiday organizing and stressing."
It should be possible to customize and decide in advance what needs to be done, but more importantly, decide how much time you want to spend on cleaning during your holiday.
As a starting point, a good summer cleaning should not take more than one or two days.
Wakonen:"You can easily get the idea that you spend a lot of time buzzing around or maybe you spend a lot of time at work, and the vacation is about relaxing so that you're rested when you come back to work."
For the collector, there is often a lot of stuff in the apartment that goes unnoticed because it doesn't bother anyone.
But when the stuff has to be organized or thrown away, it takes time, causes bad nerves and drains energy.
According to Wakonen, people are often surprised by how much time they actually spend on clearing out all this stuff.
Summer cleaning should be limited and controlled.
Whether it is the wardrobe, kitchen or storage room in the holiday home, it is important to estimate how long the work will take.
Is it necessary to do everything at once or can some of the work be postponed until next summer?
If you can afford it, it's a good idea to consider getting help.
This could be a cleaning company or a professional organizer.
If during your cleanup you find things you don't want to throw away but don't have room for, remember that you can rent a storage unit at Pelican.
